There has been a gradual shift over the last year or two that has made things quieter around here. Between adding a third child and the ease of sharing on other mediums, the blog has taken a back seat to life and Instagram. BUT I have felt a gradual shift calling me back to it the last few months. I love Instagram and the quick ability to share a thought, photo, product, or happening. It has served me well as I attempted to share my heart while juggling a baby and a puppy at the same time. But as babies grow my head has more space to think and my fingers are more free to type. There is something therapeutic about sitting down at my desk up in the tree enveloped sunroom and collecting my thoughts and inspirations on this online journal. There is something sweet about the slower pace and the more permanent pen that doesn’t disappear in 24 hours after publishing.
When I first started blogging I made it a goal to share two posts a week. Other than an occasional holiday break, I pretty much stuck to that for several years. But then we had more kids, Instagram made sharing things so quick and easy, and I finally gave up working late into the night for my health’s sake best decision ever. As I said in my post on Monday, these last few months have been filled with focusing on relationships more than tasks – personal and spiritual. Through the shift I kept thinking “You need to get back to the blog.”
As of late this has been a space to share really big happenings with you all. That seems to be the trend, that blog posts should feel like reality TV shows, and we can only share incredible befores and afters. Major renovations and events have continued to shine here, but my hope is that moving forward I won’t be afraid to share the smaller things with you too. That I’ll take a bit of time to sit down at my computer and update you on projects, share visions and ideas, inspiration and products.
Speaking of products, I’ve been getting lots of questions lately about the boxwood balls I have in my home and where I got them. I love to put them in big, silver, footed bowls or champagne buckets. They also look great in urns flanking a door, or smaller ones stacked in a bowl too. I unfortunately got my big ones locally one from a florist and one from a home store but promised a round up for those of you looking to purchase online. I linked several under the images of the I have a faux ball the one in the first picture above and a preserved one. I would always choose preserved, but the price of faux is much more reasonable and sometimes the more subtle color might be a better fit for your room. Either way they give so much visual impact and life to any space! And think about what you would pay for a bouquet of flowers to do the same thing. Faux or preserved will last you forever, so they are worth a bit of an investment.
Lastly, I wanted to let you all know about a special account I have started on Instagram. Thrifting and sharing my trips on Instagram stories has been a wonderfully popular thing. So many people have made comments about wishing I could buy pieces for them. Along the way I started thinking about how I could continue the treasure hunting in a way that provides a service but does it for a greater good. I started Thrift Like The Makerista as an account to have sales of some of my thrifting finds. I will sell and ship the pieces, and the proceeds of the sales will go to a charity. Our first sale is tomorrow, April 4, at noon central benefitting Manna Worldwide. I am so excited to be bringing you great treasures and using this as a way to help kids all over the world. I hope you’ll join me over there, but I’ll see you back here soon!

My tablet wouldn’t allow me to access the info on the individual faux boxwood. Is there any other way you have them listed?
[email protected] says
Hm, they’re just listed as numbers under the images, do you see them? They look like 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | etc. They should be there.

Thank you so much for coming back to the blog… for me, it’s the only place I find you and I’ve missed your posts. So excited for your new venture with thrift sales – I hope there’s a way to join in besides Instagram. I’ve resisted social media accounts. I so enjoy what you represent and the kindness you show through your words and thoughts. Thanks for being a bright spot in my day.

Glad you’re here, Mary! Instagram is just such a quick way to sell things. I admire your choice not to have any social media. It can be a great thing but is also an exhausting/time sucking thing too. 😉 Have a great rest of the week!

Good idea! Could you please explain more ways of using faux to decorate homes

I actually am not a huge fan of faux, I think it can have it’s place, but I prefer real whenever possible.
