Six weeks have come and gone so fast! but the last week has certainly been the most whirlwind. Domino was born last Wednesday and since then it’s been a mad dash to incorporate some girly details, style and shoot the room – all while trying to heal from a completely natural child birth and adjust to life as a family of five with a newborn! I’m going to keep my words brief here today. Time is precious around these parts right now, and I think the pictures can do the talking, but I need to thank the family and friends who helped make this space coming together possible. Specifically my great friend and design partner-in-crime Laura – who took on the challenge of getting last minute details pulled together while I was in the hospital, helped style the room, and shot the space so I could take it easy and mainly focus on Domino. Design is fun on your own, but the joy is multiplied when you work with others!

An office, a nursery, and with a sink. Who knew those things put together could lead to such a sophisticated space? Your choices are always unusual (red striped wallpaper, anyone?) and that is what the design world needs. White walls and a country modern look is pretty, yes. But I crave color and inspiration, and you know how to work it, girl! Pairing the black and white with the red tones was just the right touch too. You and Micah make a great team. Keep it up!

beautiful! i can’t believe you pulled this off while being so late in your pregnancy and then having her! wonderful job. i have been curious about her name since it is so unusual–what led you to that choice? is it pronounced the way we pronounce the noun domino? that’s just a pure curiosity question–i love hearing how people came to their unique name choices for their kids!
Thanks, Abby! Yes, pronounced just like you think. A prominent English woman I admire and follow has a daughter named Domino. I’ve always thought it was really adorable and cool. When it comes to naming our kids I always create big lists and give them to Micah to narrow down. It was the only one he liked, and he really loved it, so that’s how she got the name!

Could you please tell me the source of the light fixture closest to the camera in the before photos that looks like layers of pink glass?
Paula, you’re not the first to ask about that, but it’s actually the final light fixture but it just still has the packaging tucked in the leaves. 🙂 Micah kept it on there thinking it would keep construction dust out of it, but it does kind of look like glass now that several people have asked about it!
You take “multi-tasking” to a whole other level!!!!!!!!!! Congratulations on beautiful Domino and also on a stunning room. It’s the most elegant multi-use room I have ever seen. I know you will enjoy it!

I keep coming back and looking at this room. I love it! I follow a total of 3 blogs, and yours is one of them. Your classic yet bold style inspires me, and the fact that you do so much of the work yourself (with Micah, of course) is incredible. Great job to both of you! I hope that you are recovering well (from the delivery, I mean…and the room reno, too, I suppose :)) I’ve done the natural birth thing too, and it was rough but better in the long run. I hope you are able to get some rest and that post-partum depression doesn’t get you down. Good luck and lots of joy in the beautiful, sleepless days ahead.
