It’s week five, and while I should be scrambling at this point to shoot the reveal I’m currently relishing in an extra week and more time to dedicate to the details! If you’re just joining me you can catch up with week one, week two, week three, and four. Last week the room got painted and papered, and I am so thrilled with how it turned out!
Brian did a phenomenal job and I and my sanity can’t thank him enough for his attention to detail and hard work. The paper is Farrow & Ball’s Bumble Bee and the color is Peignoir. This week we’ve been sidetracked by a lot of personal things like running trunk or treats, competing in Crossfit competitions, and parent teacher conferences which means kids off of school, oh boy and we’re finishing things off with Halloween and Micah and Domino’s birthday. It’s a crazy time, but come this weekend we’re strapping down to finish installing electrical, do a few DIY projects, hang draperies, and start loading things into the space. I don’t want to give too much away before the reveal, so I thought next week it could be fun to do a Q&A with you all! I’m open to anything, but thought it make sense to focus on the ORC and design. So send me your questions, either comment below or shoot me an email: themakerista(at)gmail(dot)com. Hope you had a Happy Halloween!

The first picture in this post is like, WOAH. If that’s a sneak peek, I’m so excited to see the finished space. My style (whatever that may be, still trying to figure it out!) is different from yours in a lot of ways, but I’m very inspired by your blog! I’ve read for a long time but I don’t know if I’ve commented before. Thanks for sharing with me + the rest of the world wide web. 🙂

Thanks, Bethany! It is definitely a sneak peek of some of the elements. 🙂 Like I said, I don’t want to give too much away, but I think the different layers of color and styles in here is going to be really fun and fresh! Thanks so much for commenting, I love getting feedback!

I can’t wait to see the finished product. My question: When designing a room, do you design it independently, or do you give thought to the style / scheme of the whole house? I love the idea of creating a flow throughout the house, but it also gives me pause when making design decisions because I over-analyze whether a bold choice will impact other rooms in the house. Thanks for sharing your amazing gift with us!

A great question! Thanks for asking and your kind words, Jennie!

Can’t wait to see the reveal. I am curious on the execution of the molding. How you determine spacing of each box, especially from one wall to another…?

Great question, I’ll be sure to address this!

I love what you’ve done so far. That color, mounding and paper are beautiful! My question is how do you balance modern with the tradition along with choices for kids within a traditional design. Based on your other rooms, you seem to have a knack for for the mix and I’m curious your thought process/considerations. I’m working on my own home and enjoying enjoy the balance of traditional with modern and even quirky, playful touches. Thanks! PS – from a fellow KC-er, I love that you rep KC frequently in your posts too!

Great question, I’ll be sure to address this! Thanks, Sarah!

I love this color! I originally thought it would be darker. But, this is wonderful. I have a question. How do you determine which molding you should use in a room? Do you have a go-to-style that you use in most rooms or is it different most times? Thank you for sharing the exact molding for this room! We want to add molding to the rest of our rooms and don’t know what will look good and what each will do to the room. Thank you so much for all of your information.

I’ll definitely touch on this, thanks Tiffany!

Oh my, this is gorgeous!! I am envious of Milly!! Love the peignoir color and wallpaper and cannot wait for the reveal.
On another note, our weekend was similar (except we didn’t have a room challenge…lol). Our daughter’s Halloween party at school that I was on the committee for, 2 trick or treats, plus the school chose to let the kids out on 1 pm on Thursday and no school Friday for conferences. Wonder why they all choose the weekend b/f Halloween? It was craziness!! (Oh…and since my daughter did so well on her report card, she was promised a daddy daughter trip to Game Stop and dinner/fun at Dave and Busters and she wouldn’t let him out of it, it had to be last weekend!! 🙂

Good to know we’re not the only ones with a “full” life! 😉 Thank you, Tanya!

Hi Gwen. That wall color is a stunner! I first discovered you and your blog when you remodeled your sun room on the One Room Challenge last year and was instantly drawn to your style. When I come to your page, I know I’m going to see something different and inspiring. You use such amazing colors and pair them so well! I’m also loving the molding work in this room. My questions would be, how do you go about picking color schemes and deciding what colors work together and what colors don’t? Also, like someone else mentioned above, I’d like to know how you go about selecting molding for a room? How much is too much? Etc. Thanks!

Great questions, I’ll do my best to address these! Thanks so much, Shelley!

Looking awesome!! I’m always curious about the Metrie moulding—are you placing it directly on drywall? Our walls have a sort of orange peel texture, so I’m always assuming you need to put up paint-grade wood over drywall, then do the moulding. But most of the blogs I see seem to just nail it up there… maybe everyone has a secret prep step to smooth out texture?
[email protected] says
This is directly on drywall. I don’t think you have to do that, but our walls were already smooth. You can have your walls recoated first. I would think you wouldn’t have to though. Good luck, Callie!
