My one hesitation with country living has always been this: no one can hear you scream. I’m doing my best to put that aside for all of the positives, but being alone on this vast property at night, with only the sounds of the owls, crickets, frogs, and coyotes, is quite creepy.
In college I wanted a big cape (of course I did) so my Grandma Rose made this one for me out of brocade upholstery fabric lined with navy silk. It’s so fancy that I rarely wear it, but this felt like the perfect opportunity. If I’m leaving this earth, let me leave it in style.
