I’m hopeful this table will soon be filled with puzzle pieces as things slow down a bit for winter, but for now it houses some curiosities and critters. All of my kids come find me to show me beautiful butterflies and green grasshoppers, but Domino searches out the bugs that have passed on and proudly brings them in to live under the glass. A simple nod to Halloween is the snake skin my neighbor found in a parking lot and knew I’d want to have. Winning with my neighbors! Like almost everything in the room, the new sofa was a Thrift Club find. It’s probably the fifth or sixth sofa that has lived in here, and it’s definitely the best one yet. Laura Kackley and I determined that the color is crushed watermelon, so it’s now known as the watermelon sofa. Oh, and I finally found a way to keep our dog, Hank, off of the furniture. And it’s not a bad look either!
Any tips on how you keep animals off your furniture?

Yes, the way to keep a dog off a couch or from chewing the fringe on a rug is the Act of God technique. I learned it years ago in dog obedience class from a woman that was a classmate in college that taught the class.
First, take a clean mousetrap and put it on the couch. Carefully set the trap and then take just one piece of the newspaper and gently put it carefully over the set trap so the trap does not snap. It will kind of look like a tent. Leave it there. Sooner or later Rover will jump up on the couch which will snap the trap and enable the newspaper to fly up in the air a bit, scaring the dog. The dog will have no explanation for this and therefore render it an Act of God. Do this each day until you find the dog has not jumped up because the trap is still set. After that, remove the trap and simply leave the piece of newspaper there. After a few days you will not need to leave the paper. You can easily tell if the dog goes back to its bad habit by feeling the couch to see if it is still warm or seeing dog fur on the cushions. Chances are quite good the dog will see the couch as off limits. Remember, you are the Alpha; the dog is not and never should be in your home. This is how I stopped my Lab from even thinking about sitting on any piece of furniture and from chewing the fringe off the edges of rugs.

I found the post that said the chandelier is from West Elm but can you share maybe the name of it? It’s no longer on their site but I thought I’d try to find second hand. It’s so lovely!
