I mentioned last week that Milly’s birthday is about a month away, and putting that out there helped motivate me to get started on some of the actual work for the party. Oh, I can brainstorm and look for inspiration all day…it’s the work that takes me carving out a chunk of time to actually sit down and do.
Have you ever used a tablet to write or draw something on your computer? I bought a Wacom tablet last year thinking that I could easily write or draw things in Photoshop. Turns out it’s like learning to use a pencil all over again. I think I’ve finally gotten the hang of writing, but drawing is another beast. That swan up there took me about an hour to get decent – just a typical example of most of my DIYing: it always takes 10 times longer than I think it will.
We’re only having close family over, so a written invitation isn’t really required, but I love creating them. It just helps set the mood (and get me in the mood). We’re doing the party poolside, and I want it to feel elegant yet kid-friendly. Here are some things I’ve felt really inspired by.

Our son's birthday party is about the b only time of year we try to get our sun porch in order. It's so far down our list of priorities for the house but it looks decent the one day! My heart swoon hard for that little tutu! And your swan looks pretty fabulous!
