The living room continues to be the space that’s slowly evolving instead of quickly being made over. But one of it’s most recent updates, while subtle and unnoticed by most (men), has my eyes doing a happy dance. We’ve had a beautiful English roll arm in here for years now. It was a lovely piece. But it was something I had continued to try and make work because I liked it and it was a quality piece, not because it was something I loved in the space. The color didn’t flow with the rest of the main level, the high back really chopped up the living room, and the curves didn’t allow the tub chairs to shine the way they should.
You can see pictures of the front in this post, but I wanted to show you the back to allow you to see the major differences. Here’s the new sofa…
Look at that color with the kitchen. So calming! The modern lines feel masculine and clean against the blush tub chairs more feminine shape too. This is the Luxu in Cedar Green from Article. We have several Article pieces, but this is my first sofa I’ve ordered from them. I was a little worried that going from a sofa four times the price would leave me wanting more from this budget-friendly option, but I am so happy to say that the quality and comfort feels the same as our last sofa. Honestly, this fabric is softer than the last one we had, and I can’t believe how well it cleans up.
Whether it’s finding Hank sprawled out on it he’s not supposed to be on the furniture, Domino enjoying a snack on it she’s not supposed to have snacks in here, or Milly doing a flip off the back of it she’s supposed to keep gymnastics confined to the playroom it’s held up beautifully. We’ve had it a few months, and it still looks brand new.
I still have that wall between the living room and kitchen to contend with, but I’m really happy with how this side has turned out. And I just have to point out, not one single throw pillow added. I really loving a much cleaner sofa these days. What’s gotten into me? The men are thrilled!
Are you finding yourself less interested in throw pillows too, or is it just me?
Fast forward to our living room in 2020.
*Article gifted the sofa, but all thoughts, opinions, and selections are my own.

Looks Fantastic!!! Love that new sofa.
And yes— I’m in a “less is better” throw pillow phase right now too. My husband and teenage sons are very happy with only two pillows on the sofa : )

It really is so much better. I love how you’re not afraid to switch things up if things feel “off”.

Thank you! Life’s too short to live with something that’s just ok!

I am with you on the throw pillow front! I’d say over the past year a lot of ours have ended up stashed away in the attic. I love how that new sofa works with the kitchen!! Such a good change!

What a gorgeous color! The velvet looks so sumptuous. Where is the English roll-arm from? I’m actually on the hunt for one for my own family room!

I would have never thought the old couch needed to be switched but the new article sofa really does look so much better! Loving how it really does balance all the subtle touches of pink!!

Hahaha I’ve had two chocolate labs since I was a teenager (we lost the oldest last year at almost 15 years old and the youngest is now 12) and they will listen to commend…..until you’re not around (they were not allowed in the front living room of my mother’s house and they would never go in there…….except when we were out of the house. You’d see their little faces in the window as we were backing out of the driveway in the car). They were not allowed in my mother’s bedroom either………but in the middle of the night they would slid themselves in next to the bed and then you’d hear them early in the morning “quietly” going back into the corridor before the alarm went off. They are wonderful dogs and your family will enjoy Hank’s personality more and more as he grows 🙂 Sorry, the sofa is great (flows better with the space for sure)……but I’m starved for a dog right now (trying to convince the spouse of adopting one since I’ve lost my 10 year old cat back in May….it’s just so hard to live without a furry face in the house).

Love that story, ha! Our last black lab was the same way. He would get on couches when we weren’t around. Good luck getting a new furry friend!

I have always loved your navy English roll arm sofa (I’m actually hunting for one for my own living room right now), but I agree that this new more modern lower silhouette fits better in the room and with the chairs. It looks gorgeous! Always inspired by what you do!
