Mother’s Day is one of those holidays that can easily feel like just another day for many moms. Some say that it’s a time for us to spend with our children. While I can understand this sentiment, when you’re mothering young children, all you really long for is a break from that on Mother’s Day, am I right? Moms are doers. We’re the organizers, planners, cooks, and cleaners. We do almost everything it takes to put on a get-together, so sometimes we get the short end of the stick on the day that pays tribute to us.
This year, instead of trying to go out to eat with 14 small children, most of them under the age of 5 why don’t we leave the kids with the dads and take some time to really celebrate – just us moms?
If you’ve followed along for a while, you know hospitality is something I’m always working on. We bought our house with the hopes of sharing it with others. Being hospitable doesn’t come that naturally to me, but it’s an act I long to perfect and hope to one day be effortless at practice makes perfect. Parties can be stressful to prepare for with three little ones and all that comes with family life. Worrying about burning something or giving a new recipe a go is only going to add to that stress. So to keep things as simple as possible, I decided to host a meal I love for some of the moms in my life: brunch. Brunches are a bit more relaxed, and the food is relatively easy. With lots of things you can prep ahead of time or pick up the day before, I figured I could host while still being able to enjoy the company. And it’s day 12 of our Whole30. So I selfishly picked some things I knew I could eat too!
Setting up the table a few days prior is key. Not only do you get the task out of the way, you can see what items you might be missing and also plan the dish placement for the buffet. Flowers can be brought in the day before and should stay fresh as long as the room is cool, and they are not in direct light. This room gets a heavy dose of morning sun. I made sure to lower the shades at night and keep them down until it was time to brunch.
I picked up some pastries the day before and cut up fruit so it was at the ready. Eggs, sweet potato hash, and bacon can all be cooked ahead of time and reheated right before guests sit down to eat. I am blessed with a sister-in-law who loves to bake and is incredible at it so when she offered to make a cake I wasn’t turning her down.
While my entertaining skills have improved over the years, there’s one area I’ve been totally slacking and that’s coffee. Because I don’t drink it, we’ve never had a coffee pot. If we were having people over and my mother-in-law was coming she would sometimes bring a maker, but I still had no idea how to work it.
Getting the things I know how to do together is challenge enough, but trying to provide a hot cup of coffee seems more than I could take on. The Keurig® coffee maker is the perfect answer. All you have to do is fill the reservoir with water, pop in a K-cup® pod, everyone loved the Green Mountain Coffee® Breakfast Blend and with the touch of a button you have a steamy cup of coffee in under a minute. Even this non-coffee drinker can do that. Along with black coffee there are loads of flavored options, teas, and hot chocolate – my kids are super excited about that last one. Plus the Keurig® K250 Coffee Maker comes in several great colors to match any decor. I love how the white ties in with the rest of the buffet. A Keurig® is certainly a very thoughtful gift for a coffee drinker, but it’s something every hostess should have in their arsenal for effortless, easy entertaining.
It was so wonderful to have an afternoon of great food, drink, and good conversation with some really special women in my life. Maybe I’ll have to make this a tradition. How do you do Mother’s Day? Do you take time for yourself or spend it with your whole family?

The set up is beautiful and the guests look happy, so I would say this is a win! The new Keurig design looks a lot sleeker than the older bulky version. Can I ask where your top and mugs are from? I’m a sucker for anything chambray and ruffles, and seeing them together – insert heart-eyed emoji. I also really like the mugs. They look large and while the body has clean, round lines, the delicate handle adds visual interest.

Thanks so much, Megan! Yes, I agree! The top is Ann Taylor and the mugs are from Snowe. I’ll be blogging soon about them!
