*This post is in partnership with Lowe’s, but all thoughts, opinions, and selections are my own.
It’s been a long journey to get to these bathroom reveals, but here we finally are. I started planning and picking pieces well over a year ago. You can see the befores here, the initial thoughts on the renovations here, and how I picked the girls’ color here. A lot of life happened in between. A lot of other renovation (like the backyard and the exterior of the house), but here we are, and it feels good to have these spaces finished!
Xander’s bath is small and understated, but still contains special pieces and patterns that pack a punch. Most men only care about the shower, so we gave this space a good one with a super cool rain head to grow with him. The black toilet was a request of Xander’s, and it is definitely a sleek look. The seat has a night light built in, life-changing for toilets used by little boys at night! This space brought us a ton of challenges in terms of layout and personal error on my part. In turn a lot of my vision had to be scrapped (sometimes that’s just how it goes when you are on a budget) and design had to be simplified. Because of the pitched ceiling, my initial shower door didn’t work out, and we had to have a piece of glass custom cut and installed.
While some of those changes have left me feeling a bit of design regret, if I would have known I couldn’t use that shower door earlier, I would have gone way more bold in my tile choices the sink has been a really big bright spot in it all. When the sink I ordered was too big for the space, I hopped on Facebook Marketplace and found this 100-year-old made in 1918 stunner for under $100. I’m a big believer that every space needs something old, but kitchens and baths can be harder to put that principle to work. I was so lucky to find this! Please find all sources at the end of the post.
The goal was to give the girls a bathroom that was fun, a space they would love to get ready in. I think we accomplished just that! The layering of so many different bold elements gives the bathroom a look as unique as my girls. I knew the walls would go pink, and we carried that pink onto the trim and the ceiling as well. The color envelopes you and gives you a glow. The floor adds a graphic punch at an in-stock-tile price. For some, these could have been enough excitement, but we really went all out with the shower curtains. These beauties are made from Vervain’s Secret Garden. The ceiling over the shower is vaulted, and I saw no other option than to take the curtains all the way up. Talk about drama! The other little details continue to grab your eye and make the room feel special. Micah did a phenomenal job adding the Greek key pattern to the shower (more on the tile work next week). I found the Models At A Beach towards the end of the project. I love that it’s two girls. Simple updates, like covering these sconce shades in red grosgrain ribbon continue to add personality and detail for little time or money.
The vanity will surely be the workhorse of the space as the girls grow. From toothpaste stains to hairspray, nail polish to curling irons, I wanted something that was quality and durable. We painted the Kohler cabinet the same color as the walls, and Premier Surfaces topped it with Silestone’s quartz in Lyra, the same stone we used in the kitchen. To make it feel special, added a shelf for the girls to display treasures on now and products on later. The milk glass handles add a sweet, classic touch to the more modern lines of the piece.
This bathroom knows who it is and isn’t afraid to have a little fun. Just like my spunky, girly daughters.
Kid’s spaces truly are my favorite to design; the sky’s the limit! I’ll be back to talk about the tile selections, they’re all in stock at Lowe’s, and how to mix in-stock tile in ways that really elevate your space. In the meantime, I’d love to take any questions you might have below!

I should’ve waited to repost! Totally should’ve waited!! LOL!!! That shot with the shower curtain! I could die! The red shades! I love how you take risks! LOVE. IT!

Ha, thanks, lady! Yes, it went from kind of bold to really bold. 😉
Debra says
Love the boys bathroom! Is the entire ceiling covered with the same subway tile?
[email protected] says
It is! Can hose it all down. Ha!
Kelley says
Absolutely brilliant boy’s bathroom! Having three boys who take long showers makes keeping rust and condensation away a challange. Even the most powerful exhaust fan won’t do the trick. Someone once told me “just tile the whole thing.” After seeing this design inspiration, I just might!
[email protected] says
Yes, thank you! Hoping the tile is a game changer once he starts showering a lot more!

The other day on Instagram you mentioned that your house wa sbuilt in 1988 and I couldn’t believe it ! So cute and I love your use of vibrant colors and the molding details on the walls ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, I take that as a big compliment!

Gorgeous!!!! Do either of these bathrooms have natural light!’? The look so bright and inviting. I have an interior bathroom that I am wondering if it is worth the cost to add a skylight when we re do the roof, but gosh you have such a nice remodel without the natural light, if indeed there is none, maybe we can pull it off without the expensive skylight.
[email protected] says
The girls has a skylight over the shower, and I do love it, but we had to get it replaced during this. It was about $700 to do that. Ugh. Ha, but I do love the natural light!

Oh my goodness you really out did yourself! Both bathrooms are so beautiful! I bet the kids are in love! Loved watching snipits of these spaces coming together. Can’t wait to see what you do next!

Thanks so much for following along!

Bravo, my friend! They are both amazing. The NYC art in Xander’s bathroom is perfect after your trip with him there. I especially love that view from the girls’ shower toward the pink door and everything else going on. And the bow hook — too fun!!!
[email protected] says
Yes, I love that nod! Thanks so much, lady!

I’ve been waiting to see these pictures for a long time. Once again you’ve pulled off beautiful renovations. Yes, I would call your son’s bathroom beautiful. Did you have to have the sink sprayed or re-coated?
Your daughters are lucky to have such a creative mother. No one else will have a bathroom as cool as theirs.
[email protected] says
We didn’t. It has a few worn areas, but I think that’s part of the charm. Thank you, that’s very kind!

Fabulous! That vintage sink makes the room. The shelf over the girls sink is brilliant and I adore the milk glass handles and vinatge touches. The girls color scheme is delicious and fun and happy. Good thing you took pics of Xander’s bath since a boys bath never looks that neat for long. (wink)
[email protected] says
Thank you so much! It’s so true, the kids have already started adding their own personal touches. 😉
Nicki says
Love them both! Great job! That Greek key pattern in the girls shower took some mad skills to create. Kudos to whomever laid that tile!

Thank you, my husband did, he did a great job!

This is so beautiful! I love your style and how they can both grow with these designs. I would have loved a bathroom like this as a little girl or teen. The glossy walls are lovely

I’m so in love with these bathrooms and their contrasting personalities! theyd be the perfect married couple 🥰
[email protected] says
Thank you, love that analogy!
Val says
Both of these bathrooms are terrific but the girls’ bathroom is truly spectacular! I’d love a tutorial on how you spec out a shelf like in the girls bathroom- it is such a great way to dress up a functional and fairly basic vanity, but I don’t know how I would talk to a stone company about that. Did you have to provide them with templates for the corbels?
[email protected] says
Thank you so much! Oh my gosh, that shelf was panic-inducing, ha! I ended up having Premier Surfaces come out and measure for the counter, install that and then measure for the shelf, backsplash, and brackets. It was so hard to envision the size and thickness things needed to be without seeing the counter, sink, and faucet in place. This was where I really needed auto cad or something to see the thing in my head first!
[email protected] says
I shared a lot of inspiration images with them and it was about fighting for my vision and finding the right person who got what I was trying to convey too.

I love both bathrooms. The black toilet is nice, since they are rare to see. I love the shower curtain and adding the pink toilet paper was such a fantastic touch. Now I want to get some!

Obsessed with your sons bathroom! I love how bold the black toilet is in contrast with the antique sink- I almost wonder what the sink would look like painted black on the underside similar to the Kohler brockway but LOVE the space regardless!! Fantastic job on both rooms!!!
[email protected] says
Thanks so much! I was planning to paint the underneath if I didn’t go with the black toilet, but I think the two together would have been too much. Thanks for your kind words!

I have been following your blog for a few years now since finding you on the One Room Challenge (the library, girls’ room and kitchen reno has been my all time favorites of your designs!) and now this has been added to the list! You are truly talented and by far one of my favorite designers! I LOVE the girls bathroom! Even more, the extra long shower curtain for the dramatic effect, LOVE it! Definitely saving that as an idea! How did you hang the curtains to the vaulted ceiling? Also, was there a specific curtain rod you used, or a standard one?
[email protected] says
So sweet of you, thanks so much! We just used a fixed rod and hung it on the wall. If you’re on instagram I’m hoping to do a video tour to show that more in the next day or two on stories. It’s just standard!

Saw the picture on Instagram saying this post was up and waited until kids were down so I could devour it all, I have been looking forward to this reveal and once again Gwen you have made a statement and created not one but two amazing spaces. Love the colour choice and the tiles (isn’t Micah a star) and that extra layer you add with decor and wall hangings etc. it truely is so neat to see how you make something so special and custom. The kids will love these bathrooms for years to come!
[email protected] says
This is so sweet, thank you for the kind words, Fiona. Yes, Micah did an amazing job on the Greek key and I am really happy with all of the details and how the spaces rounded out. Thanks again!

Ha, thank you! We still have quite a few more spaces to tackle, so no need to be sad yet. 😉

You knocked it out of the park! I love how you are not afraid to be bold! I’d love to know more about the shower curtain. How it was made and hung! Thanks for sharing all your creativity!

I wish you were my mom! These rooms are incredible. You are amazing.

Ha, thank you!
Ann says
The colors in the shower curtain are beyond beautiful. And the extra ledge over the girls’ sink is fabulous.
But I think those old fashioned sinks went out of style for a reason. Where do you put the soap? No place to set down your tooth paste or razor. The newer toilets have those power flushes, so lids should be down before flushing or all those germs get sprayed into the air. With 3 boys in my house, I had to give up the storage space on top of the toilet tank due to the ick factor, or use a basket/container with a lid that can flip open easily..
[email protected] says
Thank you! You definitely have a good point!
Meredith says
How did you hang the shower curtain in the girls’ bathroom? Mine has a similar frame (arched) and I haven’t been able to figure out how to take it all the way up. Did you just mount the rod inside the stall? Any insight would be greatly appreciated—it looks gorgeous!
[email protected] says
We mounted it right outside the shower tile. Just on the wall, it was very simple. If you’re on Instagram I’m going to be showing this on stories in the next day or two!
Vanessa says
These are amazing! I love your renovations and these are lovely! You have such a great eye for style and beauty but you don’t leave out any function. So great! Brilliant function like the light on the toilet, the shelf in the girls bathroom. And then all the gorgeous details even the pink toilet paper! Thanks so much for sharing and for walking us through your process!
[email protected] says
Thanks so much for your kind words!

So spectacular! I’ve been following along on Instagram stories and am floored at all the details. One question: what grout did you choose for each of the tiled surfaces? I also wondered about your grout choice (especially the color) you chose for the black/white tile in your kitchen. I love it all and want it for my house too!
[email protected] says
Hi Laura! We used a sanded grout, premixed where we can (the walls) because it’s just easier and less messy. We used black grout for the floors. It just is no maintenance. It’s the worst to actually clean up after you grout the tile, ha, but you don’t have to clean it the way you do something lighter.

Beautiful bathrooms with such special details! Thank you for sharing your work and I know it is work to have it all come together so fabulously… you and Micah are quite a team! Did you use a shower curtain liner with the fabric? Is it all on the same pole? Please share a photo of the backside of these gorgeous curtains when you do your instastory!
Thank you!
[email protected] says
Thank you, it is work but I enjoy the process! I did, but I attached it to the back of the curtain so there’s just one rod. I just sewed two plastic curtains together for length and then attached to the top with pins to the curtain’s tabs. Hope that helps!
Stephanie says
What gorgeous rooms!!! I have two questions about your girls’ bathroom:
1. What is the height of bottom of the mirror? Can your kids see without a stool? We are installing a medicine cabinet and I’m struggling with how high to hang it (and it’s recessed, so we can’t change it once it’s in!)
2. Do you have any condensation problems with the skylight above the tub? We also have this set up and we get water drips from the moisture that inevitably rises up to the skylight, condenses, and then drips back down. I’m wondering if there is a way to combat this (install a fan IN the skylight shaft perhaps?) and thought maybe you might have a solution!
Thanks in advance!
[email protected] says
Oh gosh, I’m not sure of the height. My oldest can see some but I need to get a stool. Can you just have your kids stand in front of the space and hold a hand mirror so they can figure out where they can see? We don’t have any issues, but the fan is right across from the skylight on the wall, so that might help?
Justin Arnold@myreviewcenter says
Wow, These kids’ bathroom is really amazing. You did it so nicely. I can’t wait to make my kids bathroom like yours. Your kid is too lucky. Thanks for the sharing this and making me inspired.
