Last night I found something I’ve been waiting for. The cherry on top of a white colonial’s portico this time of year is a beautiful flag to hang in honor of our independence. I have been wanting something patriotic for this spot for a while now but just never come across anything that was just right. While I was perusing one of my favorite antique malls yesterday I came across a flag that looked pretty old. I was worried it was a bit small for the portico, but I decided to put it in the cart. After all, I’d been on the hunt for a while and a bit small at a good price was better than none.
I was so pleased, I even texted Micah about it. As I continued to thrift I was shocked to come across another flag a few aisles down. This one, much more substantial and older – only 48 stars! The price was double, but I didn’t care. When you find something you’re actually looking for thrifting, you jump on it! I got home late after picking the older kids up from vacation bible school, and Micah was kind enough to hang it straight away. He does not like spiders, and they are out in full force at night. True love right there! The size is perfect, and it just makes me happy.
We still don’t have landscaping, and the old me might have thought it was silly to decorate when the rest of our house doesn’t look up to par. But I’m reminded of my friend, Julia, and all she and her family have been through with the loss of their cabin in a fire. She says “don’t wait.” I don’t want to wait to enjoy the little things in life. I don’t want to wait to share beauty because not everything is “complete.” We’ll get landscaping eventually that’s a whole other post but in the meantime, I want to celebrate each and every moment.
A day or so ago I had finally given up on finding something old and Amazon primed a big pleated fan version that will arrive tomorrow. Thank goodness for free returns! Isn’t that always the way? You can never find what you’re looking for until you settle on something else. Then you’ll start to see what you wanted everywhere. Hope you have a happy fourth!

Yes that is so true. When I wasn’t looking for a gold metal and bamboo looking bar cart I would see one and past it by. But now they are not to be found. Maybe one day I will learn to purchase and use later.

You’ll find one with time, I’m sure of it! But yes, it’s so true!

That’s like the epitome of a suburban American house to me! It looks very festive even without the landscaping.
