It seems hard to believe, but I realized the other day that I’ve been posting to this little blog for two years this month. I remember starting The Makerista and thinking ‘how in the world will I have something to talk about every week? Who will even care?’ For those of you who’ve been coming here since the beginning (mom and dad) thank you so much for your support and encouragement. For those of you who are newer, thanks for finding me and following along. Without you I wouldn’t have purpose in this.
I started The Makerista as a place to journal the things I make, and it has turned into so much more than that. It’s not only an outlet, this blog is something that allows me to feel connected and fulfilled as a stay-at-home mom living in the suburbs. Today I thought it would be fun to look back at my most visited posts.
#5 Our black dining room is a space that is still in the works (I need to find a few more pieces) but I couldn’t be happier with how far it has come.
I always think scale is hard to wrap your head around in a picture, so the last time my friend Justin was here he took a few shots of me in the dining room. Hopefully this gives you a better idea of the size of things. I love how much the color changes depending upon the time of day.
#4 While I predominately blog about our house these days, my hair has brought many questions from the beginning (when it was really long…these pictures are making me miss my hair). I answered a lot of those questions in this post.
#3 I made this baby swing for Milly’s first birthday and the tutorial on how to make it was one of my earliest blog posts.
#2 Our first home’s living room was my favorite space in the house. While I held back a bit due to resale, it still reflects a lot of my personality with color in smaller doses.
#1 It came as no surprise that the Ikea Billy hack we did in Laura’s living room has been the post most clicked on. I was amazed at how many other outlets picked this post up – Yahoo, Popsugar, Domaine Home – but it’s a fairly small investment to get some major character in any home and people love that. You can see the tutorial with Axel Co. here.
I hope those of you in The States had a wonderful holiday weekend! This last week has been full of surprises around here. We’ve had tornadoes only a few miles away, a trip to the ER instead of fireworks (Micah’s ok, just passed out after a long day) and our basement flooded twice. My book collection was the most damaged, and unfortunately the sentimental things took the hit. As luck would have it, not a single thrift store find was compromised but our wedding album and most of the magazines I’ve ever been featured in are ruined. Thank goodness for digital files of our big day.

I'm so sorry about the flooding! I hope you can get new hard copies of your features. And congrats on two years of stellar content. As you know, I have read every post! The photos from the girls' birthday party were stunning! No kids party is complete without a little drama! ;)They were seriously adorable.
