Week 5. Week 5?! Holy cow. This is all happening so fast… Last week we made pretty big strides on the bones of the space. Friday the walls got sprayed, and since then we’ve been touching up, hanging lights, setting up surround sound and installing our favorite switches to really help set the theatrical mood.
Yesterday I picked up the countertop and Micah glued it down. I went with Allen + Roth’s Black Tie for some contrast to the walls and woodwork. For less then $200 we have a really nice place to set snacks or drinks. Tip: to save a bit of money on a small countertop (especially if there’s no sink involved) offer to pick it up and install it yourself. Just a bit of silicone holds it in place.
The Woolston Plaid carpet started going in last night it’s so perfect! and it’s FINALLY time to get to the fun stuff. Or what I hope will be the fun stuff. Tonight we’ll be moving furniture down. I’ll be praying everything fits and looks the way I envisioned it in my head. Hanging art and styling will come next. I’m still missing one of the key pieces of art shipping from France, ugh and a few accent pieces. Door and cabinet hardware should be here by the end of the week. Accessories will be minimal, but minimalism requires things to be just perfect, so I’m hoping to find some great pieces this week to finish off the space. It’s hard to believe, but I’ll be back next week with the reveal!

I really like this carpet choice! Makes my 1986 carpet upstairs look all the worse to me 🙂

Ha! Do you feel like as you go through your house and improve areas it makes the original areas look EVEN worse? That’s what seems to be happening around here. 🙂

I had a friend who had a large hole worn in front of the kitchen sink. She found a new floor she liked and had it installed, but that made the rest of the kitchen look shabby, so she worked on that for a while. By the time she was finished, she had a huge addition, new windows, new HVAC, new roof, revamped landscaping, new floors and paint everywhere, and remodeled bathrooms. And an additional stall in the garage.

GWEN!!! I think this is looking great! And is it weird if I am seriously excited about how those speakers are going to look with your whole design? Super sleek, my friend! xoxo
PS – I have never been excited about speakers. 😉

Ha! I am glad someone is excited! I definitely think they’ll be pretty decent though. 😉

It is looking so great! Looks like the sketches you posted, for sure. How do you like the Elephant’s Breath? It looks wonderful in the posted pictures. Looks very soothing, yet modern. I am curious…I am drawn to the description of it as having a slight lavender underdone, does that come out in the basement? Thanks!

I love it. I initially really wanted something warmer, but I’m sooo glad I went with this. Since it’s a windowless space the only light it’s getting is fake light, and that definitely warms the paint up a bit. I think the lights keep it from being very lavender. If you’re thinking of trying it somewhere I really recommend getting a sample first. The samples are less than $10 and come in about a week, totally worth it!

You guys have made amazing progress in just 5 weeks! The wall color is a really lovely, soft, but saturated color. Can’t wait to see it all next week!

*whistle*. Those are some sexy walls and carpet! ?
Curious about the carpet and the rest of the basement. Are you having it continue throughout?
[email protected] says
I had it go up the stairs. There’s a bedroom down there and I really wish I would have gotten enough to put it through there too, but I didn’t. :/

That carpet is amazing. I had my doubts about the wall color, but now I am super jealous. Looks amazing.

So awesome! Your room is coming along so fast and really nicely. There is no way I could do something like this unless I have someone working on it daily for 6 weeks. This will be fabulous! Hope the pieces arrived soon. And thank you for another great tip on the sink – great price!

That plaid carpet looks great with the walls and the black countertop. I’m wondering if the paint is a taupe color. The color combination is very sophisticated. I can’t wait to see the room with all the furniture and everything else!
[email protected] says
I would definitely call it a taupe. It leans more grey in natural light but warmer in the basement. Thanks and excited to share!
