I’m not sure I’d be The Makerista without Dr. Larsen. As my professor and opera director, his home had a profound impact on me and my style, and I didn’t even know it was happening. I went their for parties and class during college (it’s still hard to believe we had class several mornings a week amongst his antiques while he fed us cheese, fruit, and pastries and taught us about Napoleon and Schubert). I knew it was a special home, but I didn’t care to dive into the details or why at that time. A few weeks ago I got that opportunity. Dr. Larsen passed away at the beginning of the year, and those closest to him decided to have his infamous Christmas party one last time in his home. It was incredibly magical. The spaces we spend time in and are molded in affect us more than we know. Is there a space that you can recall that is reflected in your personal style? This is a lot of images, but it was a joy to get to spend time in this impactful home again and capture the overarching collections and small details that clearly left a mark on me.
Thanks for coming along! So many special moments and pieces that truly made this house a home many loved, created by a man who loved so deeply.

explains your style a lot. a sense of drama, refinement, grasp of quality, respect and appreciation of the past. WONDERFUL home and environment! you were blessed. I was raised in a Military family until my teen years when we settled into one city but we were still renters. we never owned a home. everything was temporary and transient, the ground beneath always moving even in relationships. before I came to faith in Christ at age 17 I was invited to a Bible study in this amazingly warm, traditionally decorated, beautifully appointed, gracious home by a lady my mom’s age. They “saw” me, engaged and accepted me. Loved on me in spite of my failures, mistakes, confusion. I have recreated that atmosphere and style in the 6 homes over 50 years we’ve lived in since acquiring family pieces and establishing a sense of place.
